Q&A with Rita

Why did you decide to run for mayor?
I have an appreciation for the strong community that is Bellevue. I would like to contribute to the next phase of making the city the best place in Nebraska to live.

What, do you feel, qualifies you for the position?
I have the energy, knowledge of the community and business experience for the office of mayor. I have worked alongside past Bellevue mayors, city council members, the Chamber of Commerce and the business community to make it a better place to live.

What are the traits you possess that would make you the best candidate?
My approach will be a strategic one, looking at the big picture. I have developed relationships with many community leaders in the Metro Area and will use these friendships to create teamwork in moving Bellevue forward. I listen well and understand what makes Bellevue "tick".
I understand the rich history and the great future Bellevue has.

What do you think is the most important issue facing Bellevue right now?
We must build on our partnerships – existing and new, to create jobs, improve city infrastructure, iron out operational problems in the city and build on the future of Offutt AFB. I am focused on implementing a citizen’s developed strategic plan of action to accomplish projects including Fort Crook Corridor and the Bring Back Old Town initiative. Accountability and transparency in government are among my key issues.

How would your mayorship differ from the ones of the past decade or so?
I think I am a new face and a different demographic than we have had for awhile. Focusing on metro and local partnerships and bringing people and organizations together to accomplish common goals will be a theme of my office. I will build on Bellevue's accomplishments that make us great-in public and private education, quality of life, and services to our community, encourage deliberate, planned growth and responsible financial policies.
